Classic walkthroughs were often written as long plain-text documents for desktop screens. Hard line breaks make prose narrow. Wide maps and tables force horizontal scrolling. Reopening the file rarely returns to the exact part of the route that mattered.

Retro Game Guides keeps the document inside a library organized by game, remembers reading progress, and provides guide-aware navigation rather than treating every walkthrough as a loose file.

Find one answer without losing the route.

Search inside a guide with result snippets that name the section and paragraph. Open Contents for the sections built from the guide's headings, recent jumps, and your bookmarks and highlights.

Bring a personal guide.

  1. Add the game from the catalog or create it manually.
  2. Choose Import File and select one or more plain-text or PDF files from Files.
  3. Open the imported guide and choose Reflow, Original, or No wrap from the reader footer. A PDF reads as its printed pages instead, fitted to the width with pinch to zoom.

A whole folder of TXT guides can also be previewed before import. Matches, duplicates, and items needing review remain visible before anything enters the library.

Personal import limits

Imports accept plain-text files up to 10 MB and PDFs up to 250 MB. Password-protected PDFs, ZIP archives, and other unsupported formats cannot be imported. Folder matching uses paths and filenames, so clean game and platform names produce better matches.

Can supported online guides be saved?

Supported online guides can be opened from inside the app and saved for private offline reading. Plain-text guides are saved as clean text; formatted HTML guides keep every chapter with its headings, tables, and images. The source stays attached. Retro Game Guides is not affiliated with GameFAQs, GameSpot, Fandom, or any guide-hosting website, and saved material remains subject to the source site's terms and the guide author's rights.

What stays offline?

Imported and saved guides, Standard Editions, library organization, in-guide search, reading progress, favorites, and bookmarks work on-device. Finding a new guide online, loading cover art, and making a purchase require a connection when used.
