Information the app stores locally
Retro Game Guides stores library data on the device so guides can be read offline. This can include game titles, platforms, imported or saved guide text, guide source URLs and attribution, favorite status, reading position and progress, reader display settings, and bookmarks created while using the app.
Highlights, notes, and checklist ticks are also stored locally as part of the guide library. These features do not send guide text or notes to the developer or a cloud-sync service.
The app also uses local device preferences, including appearance, reader settings, and whether the GameFAQs browsing notice has been accepted. These preferences are used only to make the app work as expected on the device.
Information collected by the developer
The developer of Retro Game Guides does not operate an app account system, analytics pipeline, advertising system, tracking system, or cloud-sync service. The developer does not collect, receive, sell, or share users' guide library contents, reading progress, favorites, bookmarks, highlights, notes, checklist ticks, imported files, saved guide text, or browsing history. The developer receives personal information only when you choose to send it, such as through the website contact form.
If the unlimited library in-app purchase is used, purchase processing and purchase restoration are handled through Apple and RevenueCat. Purchase history may be processed for app functionality, such as unlocking unlimited games and restoring purchases. Retro Game Guides does not use purchase information for tracking or advertising.
Network requests and third-party services
Some features load content from third-party services only when used. Those third parties may receive technical information that is normally sent with web or image requests, such as an IP address, user-agent information, requested URLs, cookies or website data, and other data described in their own privacy policies.
- GameFAQs browsing and guide downloads: When the in-app GameFAQs browser is opened or a guide is saved from GameFAQs, the app loads pages from
gamefaqs.gamespot.com. Saved guides are stored locally for personal offline reading. The developer does not receive the pages visited or guides saved. - Cover images: The app can request game cover images from URLs included in its bundled catalog. Cover images may be cached on the device. The developer does not receive cover image request data.
- In-app purchases: The app uses RevenueCat to load the unlimited library product, complete purchases, check entitlement status, and restore purchases. RevenueCat may process purchase history for app functionality. Purchase information is not used by Retro Game Guides for tracking or advertising.
- External links: Links opened outside Retro Game Guides are handled by the browser or app chosen by the device and are subject to that app or website's privacy practices.
Website contact form
The contact form on the Support page asks for your name, email address, a topic, and your message. When you send it, the website's server forwards those details, together with the address of the page you sent it from, to the developer as a single plain-text email. The email's reply address is set to the address you entered so the developer can answer you. The website does not store submissions, add you to a mailing list, or use your details for anything other than replying.
- Cloudflare: The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which runs the form's server code. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a bot, is sending the message. Turnstile runs in your browser and may process technical signals such as your IP address, browser characteristics, and how the page was used, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare states that it does not use Turnstile data to target advertising.
- Resend: The message is delivered to the developer's inbox through Resend, an email delivery service. Resend processes the message content and addresses only to deliver the email, under its own privacy policy.
The email is kept in the developer's inbox for as long as it is needed to answer you and handle any follow-up. To have it deleted, send a privacy request through the same form.
Files, folders, and clipboard
If files or folders are imported, Retro Game Guides reads only the items selected through the system file picker so it can add guides to the local library. The app does not scan unselected files.
If guide text is copied from the reader, the selected text is written to the system clipboard. The app does not read clipboard contents.
Device permissions
Retro Game Guides does not request access to location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, health data, or advertising identifiers.
Retention and deletion
Local library data remains on the device until it is deleted in the app, removed by iOS cache management where applicable, or removed by uninstalling the app. Device backups are controlled by iOS and the user's Apple settings.
Children's privacy
Retro Game Guides is not designed to collect personal information from children. Because the app has no account system, analytics, advertising, or developer-operated cloud service, the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
Policy changes
If the app's privacy practices change, this policy will be updated with a new effective date.
Contact
For privacy questions or requests, use the contact form and choose Privacy request, or use Report Issue inside an open guide in Retro Game Guides. Both reach the developer privately. Do not post private information in the public support tracker.
