Start after the last regional counter check you actually verified, then compare its named normal and secret exits. After Funky, check Star World's normal goals as well as its keys. Then clear an already-accessible Ghost House, choose Continue and Save, and wait for the map before resetting to check the file count.
What does the 96 on the file-select screen count?
The file-select number counts completed exits, not level names or map nodes. Some stages have two counted exits. Travel nodes, Yoshi’s House and Bowser’s two entrance doors do not increase the counter.

How do I take Donut Plains 2’s secret exit?

Take the secret path first to reach Green Switch Palace, then return for the normal exit.

  • In the forced-scroll cave, enter the second green ceiling pipe above the rising sand columns.
  • Preserve the blue shell in the side room. Throw it upward into the highest block on the stair to reveal a vine.
  • Climb the vine to the key and keyhole. In Green Switch Palace, reach and press the large green switch.

Replay Donut Plains 2 for its normal exit. The right-hand pipe in the secret room is a shortcut; otherwise follow the cave’s scroll to the ordinary goal.

How do I fly with Blue Yoshi?
Keep a Koopa shell in Blue Yoshi’s mouth, press B repeatedly to gain height and steer with the D-pad. Another Yoshi needs a blue shell for this power. Do not press Y while flying, because that spits the shell out. Yoshi eventually swallows a held shell, ending its power, so reach safe ground before that happens.
